I don’t know about you, but I find that if I have a deadline I will actually get things done–usually.  Last night I had all former and present shop gals over for a Christmas get together.  That was the impetous for getting my Christmas act together, not to mention that Christmas is also only 9 days away!

Since the house was finished, I thought I might share some shots of Christmas around my house.  Now when I’m looking at other blogs, I’m always scrutinizing their decor.  Most I love, but some I’m wondering why in the world they think that looks good!  So, dear readers, be gentle with me.  Hopefully, you will enjoy and maybe even learn something and/or be inspired.

And, one more thing.  If you are a previous reader, you know I am no photographer.  Don’t know how, don’t have a good camera, yada, yada, yada.  I also don’t “style” my photos—what you see is what you get.   I have to admit I’m a little more than jealous of those beautiful shots of other bloggers.  A good photograph can take something totally mundane and make it magical.  So, look at these photos with a imaginative eye.

We’ll start with  the living room.   I went with just golds on the mantel this year and used various greens for texture.  Also used a couple of ribbons for some added interest.

Here’s the top of the piano.  I t ried something different this year and went a little minimal.  These are some vintage wisemen that my mother had when I was a child.   My friend, Giggi, insists that I should put them out.  Since they are so colorful, that was another reason to go with just gold on the mantel.

Christmas 2013 015

Next, we travel next door to the YaYa room.  We call it that because it’s a tiny little room where a couple of yaya’s can have a glass of wine and visit with each other.  This is where the nativity went this year.

By adding the crackled glass ornaments, it gives it a little sparkle and makes it more special.  I also added some different greens to soften the manger and helps make it a ‘scene’ instead of just something plopped on a chest.

Notice the star on the mirror?  Well, if you don’t already know about the 3M Command strips, I’m going to make your life easier!  I used to have to concoct a hanger of sorts with a coat hanger bent over the back of the mirror then cover any visible wire with ribbon or something.  The Command Strips allow you to hang directly on the mirror—and then they come right off when you are through with them.  They used to be only white, but now they come in clear as well which is especially great for mirrors and glass.  I use them on walls and doors as well.  I have even used them to help hold garland up on an antique pier mirror.

More on the rest of the house in the next blog.  Gotta go get some shopping done!
