Prepping Your Surfaces

The key to any successful project is prep! By properly prepping your surface, you can ensure that the paint has a clean surface to stick to. Most projects will only need to be cleaned before painting. This step involves removing any dust, grease or buildup on the furniture’s surface that could interfere with the paint application. Depending on the surface you are using, you may also need to remove old wax coatings or sand off gloss finishes.

Choosing a Brush

This formula works best with synthetic brushes. The size of the brush that you select will depend on the surface you are working with. Larger surfaces such as walls or tables may require a large, flat brush, whereas smaller surfaces such as dressers require oval or round brushes.

Applying the Paint

There are a few ways to give your project a smooth finish and avoid brush strokes. First, ensure that your climate is ideal—avoid painting when the temperature outside is below 50℉ or above 86℉. Additionally, extremely humid weather can take your paint longer to dry. When coating your brush, ensure that there is not too much paint on the bristles. When applying, avoid short strokes, and instead try to carry your brush from one end to the other without stopping.
